We were contacted by the family of Douglas Wilkes (G0UTC) who had passed away and the family were trying to sort his vast collection of amateur radio equipment (mainly components).

Two members arranged to visit the family to collect any useful equipment (the family had already decided they did not want any payment) and collected a large estate cars worth of coponents and equipment that has since been put to good use within the club including equipment available for loan, training aids, and components available for members projects / repairs.

Born in Birmingham, Doug was a very keen amateur radio enthusiast. He had spent his career as an electronics engineer. He spent many years working at the university of Birmingham before moving to BRMB, Birmingham’s commercial radio station working as a senior technician. He spent his spare time volunteering on hospital radio. In 1981 he had the opportunity to help set up a new commercial radio station, 2 counties radio in Bournemouth as senior engineer. He worked at the station until his retirement. Doug had a real passion for amateur radio and spent long hours on his hobby.
