HF Digital Modes
If you listen on the HF bands, you will hear many strange and wonderful signals (if you hook up a pan adapter, you can also 'see' said signals).
As these signals change all the time due to innovative new modes, it would be impossible to list them all here, so here is just a small sample
- SSTV — a mode of transmission that allows pictures to be transmitted an received
- FT8 — part of the WSJTX suite is a robust mode for sending and receiving very short messages in less than idea conditions
- PSK — highly—efficient data mode that lets you work long distances, even when you can barely hear the signal
- WEFAX — a slow scan analog image transmission mode used for the transmission of weather charts and meteorological reports.
- JT65 — part of the WSJTX suite is a robust mode for sending and receiving very short messages in less than idea conditions
- RTTY — one of the first digital modes
Google will give you far more information than can be given here, but to really experience the digital modes, why not ask one of the club members to demonstrate digi modes on one of the club radio’s
